"Geographic Expansion Mergers and FCC Spectrum Policy: Estimating a Matching Game with Externalities"
The number of wireless carriers in the United States has dramatically decreased since the initial stages of the industry in the 1980’s. Much of the consolidation resulted in increases in geographic coverage. We use the historic pattern of mergers to estimate the incentives for geographic expansion mergers and to evaluate historic FCC spectrum policy. We estimate a structural matching game with externalities.
