Director of Graduate Studies, Professor Yongmiao Hong, has announced winners of the L.R. “Red” Wilson MA ‘67 Excellence in Economics Medal and four teaching awards to students in the Economics Ph.D. program. Recipients come from a variety of cohorts and areas of economic research.
L.R. “Red” Wilson MA ‘67 Excellence in Economics Medal:
Red Wilson has provided an endowment to support thesis proposal, research, and writing. These prizes are awarded to Economics students (graduate students in the Field of Economics who have a member of the Cornell University Department of Economics on their committee) who are at the thesis proposal stage or who are working on their thesis.
Each Medalist receives $5,000 for research expenses.
Abhishek Ananth: Abhishek Ananth is a third-year student. His research interests include Econometrics and Networks.

Graduate Teaching Awards:
In his announcement of award winners, Director of Graduate Studies and the Ernest S. Liu Professor of Economics & International Studies, Yongmiao Hong added, "An integral part of our undergraduate and graduate programs is the teaching done by our graduate students. The experience gained by our graduate students is extremely valuable to their economics training and to their job market prospects.
The department takes seriously its role in cultivating future educators and recognizes the hard work that goes into both being an effective teaching assistant and a top-notch researcher who can complete a high-quality thesis in a timely fashion. We are very fortunate to have many graduate students who do an outstanding job."
Each teaching award comes with a $500 cash prize.

Professor Yongmiao Hong: Professor Hong is currently serving as the Director of Graduate Studies and is the Ernest S. Liu Professor of Economics and International Studies in the Department of Economics at Cornell University. Hong's research interests include model specification testing, nonlinear time series analysis, financial econometrics, and empirical studies on the Chinese economy and financial markets.
