Giulia Brancaccio, assistant professor and Himan Brown Faculty Fellow in the Department of Economics and Evan Riehl, assistant professor in the Department of Economics and ILR School have been named faculty fellows of the Cornell Center for Social Sciences (CCSS). They are two of over a dozen faculty fellows announced for the 2021-2022 cohort. The program seeks to nurture the work of primarily early-career faculty in the social sciences, providing time, resources and community to help them pursue and complete ambitious research projects.
During Giulia's time as a fellow, she will investigate the value of standardization in the $4 trillion U.S. municipal bond market. “Intermediaries and Product Selection in the Municipal Bond Market” will quantify the extent of distortions and inefficiencies in the market and discuss policies targeting standardization.
During Evan's time as a fellow, he will examine how children's educational outcomes are affected by the incarceration of a parent or sibling. His project, "Disparities in Household Incarceration and Student Achievement," aims to shed light on the intergenerational consequences of the U.S. prison boom, and on whether these effects were more severe for Black and low-income children.
