Emeritus Professor Jaroslav Vanek Passes Away at 87

Department of Economics Emeritus Professor Jaroslav Vanek passed away on November 15, 2017.   He joined the department in 1964 and retired in 1996.

Prof. Vanek's early work focused on international economics.  He was a contributor to the Heckscher–Ohlin model and Heckscher-Ohlin-Vanek Model of Trade theorem which was designed to predict the pattern of trade between countries. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he turned his attention to the economics of participation, specifically labor-managed cooperatives as an alternative to mainstream economic models.

Our thoughts are with the Vanek family at this time.
