Marco Battaglini, the Edward H. Meyer Professor of Economics and Eleonora Patacchini, the Stephen and Barbara Friedman Professor of International Political Economy along with their coauthor Valerio Leone Sciabolazza were selected for the Best Article on Effective Lawmaking published in 2020 for their paper titled "Effectiveness of Connected Legislators." This award comes with a formal announcement, a plaque for each author, $1,000 to be split amoung the authors, and an invitation to the annual Center for Effective Lawmaking research conference.
The award comes from the Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) which seeks to advance the generation, communication, and use of new knowledge about the effectiveness of individual lawmakers and legislative institutions. Created in 2017, CEL is a joint partnership between the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and Vanderbilt University. The research of the Center tends to be divided into three areas: identification, cultivation, and accountability of effective lawmakers. The theme of their 2021 conference will be accountability, and it will take place in Nashville, TN this fall.
